Breathing Easier Starts with the Right Filter
Most heating and cooling systems still use a basic disposable-type air filter. These filters were originally designed to protect the equipment and not the people served by the equipment. The average air filter is only capable of removing 3-5% of the particles that pass through it.
Today, however, there are several types of permanent air filters available in various efficiencies that can help you filter the air in your home. If you suffer from allergies, asthma, hay fever, or other breathing difficulties, an air filter can help. We can even provide you with the same type of air filter used in hospital operating rooms.
For customers with standard disposable filters, Bartlett Heating and Cooling replaces them with pleated-style filters with a MERV of 8.
Why Upgrade a Filter?
Many customers have an air cleaner, such as the Aprilaire. This type of air cleaner uses a media-type filter that is generally replaced once a year. Aprilaire air cleaners can trap mold and pollen spores (3-10 microns) with 85%-99% efficiency, depending on the model you choose.
A “Bartlett Best” air cleaner option is the Infinity Air Purifier. The Infinity Air Purifier not only captures pathogens on the filter (like typical systems), but also uses germicidal technology to kill pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, and mold. This filter does not make “zapping” noises as many electronic air cleaners do. The Infinity Air Purifier has a MERV 15 rating, which means the filter achieves 85-95% efficiency for even the smallest particles tested.
